Never pay to file a property tax exemption
Applying for a homestead, senior, veteran, or disability exemption is always free through your Parish Assessor. You do not need a middleman, and no one can file it "faster" for a fee.
Be skeptical of official-looking letters offering to file your homestead exemption, "designate" your homestead, or send you a copy of your deed for $50–$200. These are private solicitations, not government notices. When in doubt, contact your Parish Assessor directly using the phone number on your tax bill.

Limited to one homestead exemption per person statewide; not available on bond-for-deed property. | December 31 | Official source ↗La. Const. Art. VII, § 20 |
| Special Assessment Level (Senior / Disability Assessment Freeze)Assessment Freeze | Freezes the assessed value of the homestead at the level in place when the owner first qualifies, so long as the owner continues to own and occupy the home and remains income-eligible. The same income cap applies to these tracks. · Income: Combined adjusted gross income of all owners must not exceed the annual cap. The constitutional base is $100,000, adjusted annually by the Consumer Price Index beginning tax year 2026; parish assessors report the 2026 cap as $102,700.
